Quad Bike FAQ

Most frequent questions and answers

This is quite a common question and the short answer is you need two things. A full car or a (pre 1997) B1 full motorcycle licence and a quadbike that has been approved by one of the three UK and European approval bodies:

-UK National Small Series Type Approval (NSSTA)

-UK Motorcycle Single Vehicle Approval Scheme (MSVA scheme)

-European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval (ECWVTA)

There are also things that have to be maintained such as lights, reflectors and number plates. Tyres will also need an E mark so they can pass an MOT as well.

If your using it agriculture or forestry then you qualify for a nil tax disc but you may need proof of this and the DVLA can fine you.

Otherwise it will depend on the quadbike itself so ask for details. Weight and age are the two main factors.

This is really down to so many factors and out of our hands but somewhere between £200 and £2000 is the best answer we can give.

Licence, no claims, weight, age, class and where it’s kept are all important factors but although they are Private Light Goods (PLG) vehicles they are often seen as ‘specialist’ vehicles so it’s important to find the right insurer.
